60 at last!
The ‘big day’ arrived—my 60th birthday. To celebrate, we went on a trip to County Durham and back again.
Tuesday (the ‘big day’)
We drove over to Middleton-in-Teesdale the evening before.

The weather wasn’t at its best, quite breezy and wet. We took it easy with a short trip to Barnard Castle.
Wednesday

Another milestone was achieved! When we bought tickets to look at Raby Castle, I got a senior discount for the first time in my life. I saved myself £1 there! 🙂
Even though we didn’t go inside, Raby Castle seemed very well-kept, considering it was built in the 1300s.

On the way back to Middleton, we had a look at Egglestone Abbey near Barnard Castle.
Thursday

After enjoying the sunrise over a frosty Teesdale, we started on our way home.

After driving over the fells, we arrived in the Eden Valley, Cumbria, and had a look at Brough Castle before we started the last leg.
Brough Castle is a medieval castle built on top of the remains of a Roman Fort.
An excellent mini-holiday with my wife and a birthday celebration the way I want it.
